CARROLLTON DALLAS (KDAF) — The press conference at the 2024 LIV Golf Team Championship was anything but par for the course. With golf superstars, witty banter, and a sneak peek into the upcoming action-packed tournament, Aug. 22 had everything you’d expect from a Texas-sized golf showdown at Maridoe Golf Club in Carrollton.
Hot and sunny at 10 a.m., the press conference kicked off with U.S. Open champ and Dallas local Bryson DeChambeau, the quick-witted LIV Golf analyst David Feherty, and Maridoe Golf Club owner Albert Huddleston taking the stage.
DeChambeau, who captains Crushers GC, reflected on the opportunities LIV Golf has provided.
“I think we have changed the vision of the game of golf,” DeChambeau said. “There is so much opportunity now moving forward than there previously was. LIV came around, and we all saw this opportunity of team golf, creating business value, and growing the game globally.”
Turns out, Huddleston, Maridoe’s owner, has been dreaming of a showdown like this for years, and when LIV Golf came knocking, Huddleston’s “yes” came quicker than a hole-in-one.
“Why Maridoe exists is to periodically have some of the best players anywhere come to Maridoe and show their skills and create a tremendous opportunity to honor and expand golf,” Huddleston said. “I'm excited about where we're going and the upcoming tournament.”
"When they asked me, it was easy to say yes too," Feherty quipped. The golf legend also got DeChambeau to spill on the softer side of golf: how it’s all about the team. And with this game having a unique emphasis on teamwork, there's always a way to push players forward and keep things fun.
The showdown of LIV Golf’s season goes down Sept. 20-22 with major champions and golf’s biggest names at Maridoe for the LIV Golf Dallas Team Championship.
This event isn’t just for die-hard golf fans. With the interactive Fan Village featuring everything from local eats to virtual golf simulators, and a LIV Kids Zone, there’s fun for everyone.
