Anticipation builds as LIV Golf Championship arrives in North Texas

CARROLLTON (KDAF) — It’s game time in Carrollton, and Maridoe Golf Club is preparing to host the prestigious 2024 LIV Golf Championship from Sept. 20 through Sept. 22. Known for its challenging layout, tight fairways, and undulating greens, Maridoe is no stranger to high-level tournaments, but this event is arguably the biggest event the course has ever hosted.

So, how did Maridoe land such a major tournament? The course’s owner, Albert Huddleston, played a key role in landing the tournament.

“[Huddleston] always had an interest in hosting high-level professional championship golf,” Mark McClearin, the Head Golf Professional at Maridoe, said. “Just through his connections, it was kind of a match made in heaven.”

With 240 members, including 20 professional tour members, Maridoe is already a hub of high-level play. Hosting the LIV Championship is the perfect opportunity to put the course on a bigger stage.

"The members are excited to see the course they play every day host some of the best players in the world," McClearin said. "We’re excited to show off Maridoe and our facility to the public, including both our residents in Carrollton and the greater DFW area."

The tournament is expected to draw 8,000-10,000 fans daily, with a special stroke-play finale on Sunday. For fans and locals, Maridoe’s golf shop will be open to the public, offering a unique tournament experience.

With the tournament just around the corner, the Maridoe Golf Course is ready for an exciting weekend of golf. For a full list of the schedule click here.
